Devin grew up in the Okanagan and spent his teenage summers working full-time in Saskatchewan. Like many young people, he left British Columbia because he could not afford to live here while pursuing post-secondary education. He studied Political Science and Anthropological Linguistics at the University of Saskatchewan before spending several years in Japan working as an educator. He eventually returned to British Columbia to be closer to family and build a future in the province he calls home.
Growing up in a low-income household, Devin learned early on the importance of hard work and standing up for what you believe in. He worked through his teen years to be the first in his family to ever attend university and continued to work full-time while studying.
In university, Devin founded and led a student advocacy organization dedicated to protecting high-quality, affordable education. Under his leadership, the organization grew to several hundred members and successfully pushed for meaningful policy reforms and a change in institutional leadership. This experience showed him the power of organized, evidence-based advocacy to drive real change.
Today, Devin works for the University of British Columbia continuing the work he started as a student to improve access to education and build strong policies. He is running with the Vancouver Liberals because he believes in a practical, transparent, and collaborative approach to city-building. He wants to restore trust in City Hall, strengthen partnerships across all levels of government and sectors, and deliver policies that improve everyday life for Vancouver residents.
Devin believes Vancouver must do more to remain a city where people, particularly young families, can build their lives. That means improving access to essential services, supporting safe and healthy communities, and ensuring city resources are managed responsibly and transparently. It also means investing in the parks, community centres, festivals, arts, and public spaces that bring people together and make Vancouver a great place to live.
He also feels we must think ambitiously about Vancouver’s future. Integrating the UBC Endowment Lands into the City of Vancouver presents an opportunity to better serve a growing community and strengthen regional planning, including advancing critical transit projects like the SkyTrain extension to UBC. With his knowledge of that community and its needs, he is prepared to help lay the groundwork for this long-term vision.
Above all, he is motivated by a simple goal: to improve the lives of others. Serving with the Vancouver Liberals on City Council, he hopes to build a Vancouver that is more affordable, connected, and resilient for future generations.
Devin enjoys cycling, writing, live music and performances, film, and exploring the city. He lives in South Vancouver with his high school friend and his Maine Coon, Rupert.
