Vancouver Liberals Announce Small Business Owner, Healthcare Worker, and Community Advocate Amanda Bains as Candidate for Vancouver Park Board Commissioner
Amanda Bains joins Kareem Allam’s team to deliver meaningful change to the Vancouver Park Board
Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Liberals are proud to announce that Amanda Bains, a small business owner, HEU member, and elected strata council president will be running for Park Board Commissioner as part of Kareem Allam's Vancouver Liberals team. Her experiences have taught her that Vancouver must provide safe, welcoming, and vibrant spaces for all of its residents, including those within marginalized communities.
Bains also carries an honesty and authenticity that she will bring to the Park Board, saying “People ask me ‘Amanda, why would you give up your business to run for this?’ – because I’m angry. I’m angry that people who love this city feel like they can’t build their lives here anymore. I’m angry that we have the resources, the land, the infrastructure, and we’re not using it.”
Bains believes that Vancouver is at a crossroads where Ken Sim’s ABC government has chosen to not invest in livability - she wants to choose the other path, one that improves the quality of lives of our residents. She has 5 main priorities for when she is elected Park Board Commissioner

Ensure Quality of Park Maintenance Standards
“We’ll protect what we have, and I will ensure that every single park in the city is maintained to a standard that says ‘We value this, and we value you’,” said Bains. “If maintenance and design policies, guidelines, and schedules are lacking or missing entirely, I’ll make sure that such gaps are addressed.”
We Invest in Neighborhood Parks
Bains believes many neighborhood parts are neglected - whether it is the quality of maintenance playgrounds that haven’t been updated in decades. “Small community parks deserve the same love as Stanley Park and Kitsilano Beach,” she explained.
Accessibility for Everyone
“An individual’s background should never dictate when or how they’re able to access a park in Vancouver. Whether it’s reducing physical barriers for those with disabilities, or creating better and safer trails, I will make sure that our parks are accessible, no matter what definition of accessible you use,” said Bains.
Prepare for Climate Change
Bains wants to ensure that our parks are resilient in the face of climate change. “Vancouver needs to implement strategies like more canopy cover, and cooling stations, so that our parks are a place of retreat on hot days and during extreme weather - not somewhere to retreat from,” she said.
Build Relationships with Indigenous Nations
As significant portions of Vancouver are on unceded land, and Indigenous-led construction projects such as the Sen̓áḵw development become more common, Bains said she “will work with the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-watuth people to ensure Indigenous voices shape Park decisions.”
Bains’ experience combined with her priorities and commitment to action will help Vancouver’s green spaces and park infrastructure thrive now and well into the future.
